Call for Board Candidates
Board Debuts Revised Nomination Process
That other Election Day is in the past, but at the Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society, the democratic process is just getting started! One of the nation’s oldest and largest member-owned food co-operatives, the Co-op is issuing its annual call for members to run for seats on the Board of Directors.
Four Board members will be elected in April 2017.
The campaign season begins immediately, as individual members contact the Nomination Committee to indicate their interest in Board service. “Board membership is a great opportunity for members to help the Coop continue to pursue its mission,” says Board President Tony Roisman. “We encourage all members to find out what the Board does and how they can participate. Everyone’s welcome.”
This year, the Board has voted to revise the nomination process.
“The process has been greatly simplified to make it easier for any interested member to run for election to the Board,” Roisman says.
In the past, the Board endorsed some candidate applicants, while those not chosen could become candidates by collecting members’ signatures on petitions.
Now, every applicant will be offered information about Board service and encouraged to participate in an election process focused on informing membership about all candidates. “Co-op members make up their own minds about Board candidates,” says Nominating Committee chair Bill Craig. “The Board can concentrate on educating candidates about service and educating members about candidates.”
