Dear Member-Owners,
As you may know from years of financial reports and Annual Meeting discussions, despite the best efforts and tireless dedication of many different people here over the years, the Co-op has been unable to make the Co-op Market a viable retail business. To date we’ve incurred losses exceeding $2.6 million.
As we talk about next steps, it’s important to remember that as owners, we all have a stake in the Co-op’s viability. We certainly don’t expect our member-owners to always agree with the Co-op’s directors or to agree with one another, but we do hope that everyone thinks as a business owner and looks at challenges through that lens.
Operating a business at a loss in one area significantly impacts other areas. This includes farmers and employees who rely on the Co-op for their livelihoods, and food-insecure and transportation-insecure community members who rely on the Co-op for our many giving programs.
Currently we are requesting a change in zoning with the Town of Hanover to explore the possibility of transforming the retail space to a new home for our Co-op Kitchen. We have created this page in order to post quick updates for our entire cooperative community. Stay tuned, and reach out anytime with questions.
