It was an early summer day in New England. Warm but pleasant. One might even call it clement. Our hero wandered through the Co-op with his tattered shopping list, feeling like something in his life was just … missing. “If only I could find a great new cookie!” he lamented. His tears flowed like rushing river water.
Then suddenly, on his phone, like a beacon of promise, he surfed the Co-op website and saw our latest Co-op Pick. Alas, his empty world was now made new again.
Island Bakery Orange Melts
Today’s pick comes to us from Laurel Saulnier, who works at the Front End in our Lebanon Store. A fine writer, Laurel describes these delicious Scottish cookies (or biscuits, as they’re called in Scotland) this way:
These organic cookies blend buttery shortbread, sweet orange, and melted chocolate into a delightful bite. The packaging itself is a visual treat, packed with tiny details. The inside of the box features an ocean expanse with whale tails popping up, and the cookie holder itself is a tiny cardboard boat! An enjoyable treat from top to bottom. —Laurel Saulnier
Baked Old World style in small batches on the Isle of Mull off the west coast of Scotland, the cookies are all organic, produced in a facility powered solely by local renewable energy—wind and water for electricity, and wood for heating the ovens. Light and versatile, the cookies complement a wide variety of foods and beverages, though pairing with a cup of hot tea and a cool summer evening is a special treat when the weather allows.
Thanks to Laurel for the excellent pick! Look for them in our Hanover and Lebanon stores.
