Okay, so! You’re scrolling. You’re hungry. You’re also, let’s face it, probably one of those people who looks at a perfectly good plate of food and thinks, “Needs more giant monster fighting.” Congratulations, you’ve found your people.
Today is International Godzilla Day! To celebrate the legacy and meaning of the influential big G, we have two kaiju-sized recipes featuring products that can be found in our stores!
Godzilla’s King of the Monsters Pizza
This isn’t just a pizza; it’s a topographical map of destruction. Pile it high, make it messy, and don’t be shy with that hot sauce—it’s Godzilla’s city-destroying atomic breath, after all.
What You’ll Need
- Portland Pie Pizza dough of your choice (I recommend the basil!)
- Cabot Artisan Pizza Cheese mix
- Bove’s Sweet Basil pizza sauce
- Add Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Green Peppers, Mushrooms, Bacon, Tomatoes and Onions (you can add or remove any ingredient at your leisure)
- Finish with a swirl of Tari’s Rocoto Pepper hot sauce!
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 475°F.
- For best results let dough sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before stretching so that it is nice and soft!
- Stretch the dough. Pro tip! The trick to stretching pizza dough is to get it as flat and round as possible BEFORE you pick it up. Lightly coat the dough in flour and push flat with palm, then pick up the dough and stretch to desired size.
- Brush dough lightly with oil and add sauce, cheese and toppings.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- Finish with a destructive swirl of Tari’s Rocoto Pepper hot sauce after slicing.
Mothra’s Matcha Green Tea Cookies
For the inevitable crash after the city-destroying meal, we’ve got Mothra’s Matcha Green Tea Cookies, which are exactly the kind of pretty, pale, subtly sweet treat a giant, benevolent insect deity would flutter down with. And seriously, the icing wings are non-negotiable.
What You’ll Need
You’ll need your standard sugar cookie recipe, plus: 1 ½ tablespoons of matcha green tea powder and white chocolate chunks. Pro tip! Matcha can be found in bulk. Shop bulk and save!
Instructions
- Mix Dry: Whisk flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream Wet: Beat softened butter and sugar. Mix in the egg and vanilla.
- Combine: Gradually add dry ingredients. Fold in white chocolate chunks.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes (this is important!).
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 13–14 minutes, until the edges are set.
- Decorate: Add pretty moth wings in icing on top when cooled!
About Godzilla
Godzilla, or Gojira as he’s known in his native Japan, first stomped onto the silver screen on November 3, 1954. Born from the anxieties of post-war Japan and the threat of nuclear weapons, he quickly became a global icon—a destructive force of nature, sometimes a villain, sometimes a reluctant hero. He’s fought countless other kaiju (that’s Japanese for “strange beast” or “mystery beast”), inspired generations of filmmakers, and proven that sometimes, the best way to deal with your problems is to smash them.
So, when you’re biting into that glorious pizza, remember you’re partaking in a delicious tradition that’s been 70 years in the making. And if you want more ideas, come visit me and be ready to spend some time because I can talk about Godzilla for as long as you want to listen!
